The Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks (A "Top 50 Post")
What can I say? It's a really silly premise, but really easy to get in to. Yes, it really is about a boy who brings a plastic Native American to life via a magic cupboard.
A *tiny* plastic Native American.
Even at a young age, I appreciated that the titular indian had an actual tribe and didn't wear a headdress. I liked that he built a longhouse and got ticked off about the teepee the kid tries to give him.
On the other hand, even as a kid, I recognized the sequels were more or less worthless.
